Dear Friends of TEXTILE ART BERLIN, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Welcome to the 16th TAB-ONLINE!
We are proud and happy to present to you textile arts and crafts whose dynamism and inspiration you can discover in the following pages.
But first a brief recap: the difficulties and uncertainties we have all been experiencing for over a year have led us to virtualise our event.
Otherwise, despite the decline of the pandemic and the increase in testing and vaccination, we would have been faced with the following alternative: postpone our event for a third time, with no guarantee that a new date could be found and held, or, as many other events of this kind have been forced to do, simply cancel it.
Of course, there is no substitute for the personal encounters and friendly conversations with exhibitors at a presentational event. The tactile qualities of the textile materials, the creative and lively impression of such a meeting are undisputed.
But a fair without our foreign exhibitors? A fair with masks and distancing and negative tests, and all this at probably more than 30 degrees? These questions are rhetorical because, as we all know, it is still far too early to get events of this magnitude approved indoors.
That's why a virtual event has many advantages at the moment: you can wander at your leisure through the images of each of the 29 exhibitions and explore each participant's presentation. The images shown here can be enlarged with a simple click. In addition, you can use the scroll function of your mouse to enlarge again the interesting details on each textile object shown. This is not possible in a normal exhibition.
The extensive picture material is supplemented by detailed explanations that appear automatically when the pictures are enlarged.
In addition, many of our exhibitors have made a point of telling their textile story, the creative ideas that inspire them, the studies or the path that led them to their current artistic concept. Our aim is to let you discover stories that are not commonplace. Discover, for example, the secret of a combine harvester with a thousand textile facets, 14 quilts and the thoughts of their creators, signs embroidered on old precious kimono pieces, endless woven and braided ribbons and much more.... You will discover magnificent fabrics, elegant accessories, a beautiful selection of books... the "must have" made easily accessible through the websites and shops of the participants!
We recently received videos of two iconic shows from the early years of TAB from Pia Fischer, our long-time fashion show organiser. Take the time to enjoy these moments of "pure creation". If you wish, pause the pictures to take a closer look at details. It's worth it! On the pages you will find links to the interviews that the editor-in-chief of our Textile Art Magazine, Ms Claudia Eichert-Schäfer, conducted with many of the artists, as well as videos and PDFs to download.
Please take the time to get to know the websites of the participants. Take your time to look at the participatory activities we have put together for you, as well as the workshops for which there are still a few places available!
We wish you peaceful, inspiring and beautiful moments. You can revisit the site at any time and as often as you like - between 9am on Saturday 19 June and midnight on Monday 21 June.
Conclusion: navigating through the world of textile arts is a breeze with us: Just choose the next click!
